Did I just see that?
Did the Orioles really intentionally walk Casey Blake to pitch to Travis Hafner with the bases loaded today?
Yeah, Pronk struck out. But that led to Victor Martinez's walk and Trot "Ty Cobb" Nixon's two run single.
I don't usually give advice to Indians' opponents, but I have to here.
You will never find a more sure out with runners on than Casey Blake. Just pitch to him, even if it's a 3-0 count.

So wait, the Orioles' plan worked, in that Hafner struck out after they pitched to get to him... And you're chiding them for it?

Weird.

Only it didn't work. By intentionally walking an automatic out, they faced Martinez and Nixon, who were red hot.
I'm sorry, but it's strange strategy, even if, on the surface, it works.

Hey, if anyone wants to take the bat out of Casey Blake's hands and put him on base, far be it from me to stop him.

Considering the trouble Blake has getting on base, anytime he represents a run instead of an out is some kind of small victory.

No, it did work. What was the goal of the single act of walking Blake to get to Hafner?

For Blake not to drive in those two runs, right?

Hafner struck out. So the move to walk Blake worked perfectly. And to say he was an automatic out is patently absurd.
