Bad day for the Falcons
One would have to take Saturday as a double-dose of bad news for BG alums like myself. Not only did the Falcons lose today to Wisconsin, but Josh Harris was released by the Browns. I had hoped Josh would stay on as the No. 3 quarterback, but the Browns apparently wanted to keep some experience at the third string. Doug Johnson will fill the spot once so wonderfully occupied by Mike Pagel and Todd Philcox.

I know we love to see BG players in the NFL. But we have to face facts: most of these guys were too slow or too small to make it in a big college conference, so how are they going to stick in the NFL?
I wish nothing but the best for Harris. I hope the Browns can keep him on the practice squad and activate him once they realize how terrible Doug Johnson really is. But I realize Harris is not in the league of other MAC QBs like Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich, Ben Roethlisberger and Charlie Frye. If he had some size like Josh Cribbs, maybe he could make it as a receiver, but he's 6'-1". Jeff Garcia is 6'-1", and everybody noted last year how he couldn't see over his line to throw.
The good news is, we should be able to look forward to years of watching Omar Jacobs in the NFL. Hopefully not skewering the Browns as a member of the Steelers, Bengals or Ravens.
