No greater comedy
Around the Horn's Jay Mariotti said he doesn't like the Indians chances because:
"They don't have a fifth starter."
Mind-numbing.
First of all, pitching hasn't been the Tribe's problem for three years. Secondly, Scott Elarton (the Tribe's fifth starter) is 4-2 with a 4.79 ERA. That has to rank up there with most of the fifth starters in the league.
Mind-numbing.
UPDATE
Mike Wilbon (on the far superior PTI) said the Indians have been pretty good since getting rid of Eddie Murray, and expects the Indians to beat the Red Sox tonight.
Wilbon at least makes sense, but the Indians test is not how long the winning streak goes, but how the team responds once the streak ends.
The Indians never recovered after losing a game to the Twins last season,a loss that came after a prolonged winning streak that brought them within a game of first.
Are the Indians better?
We'll see.

Jay Mariotti is a moron. He'd swim across Lake Michigan and Lake Erie to give Cleveland the finger.
The Plain Dealer used to run his columns when the Bulls played the Cavs in the playoffs, and during the 1994 Indians-White Sox race, just to ruffle the feathers of Cleveland fans.
He and Wilbon are both Chicago loudmouths, but the difference is Wilbon actually brings up some good points when he spouts off.
I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate "Around the Horn." I hated it with Max Kellerman. I hate it without Max Kellerman. I hate the self-important panel of columnists including Mariotti, T.J. Simers, and Bob Ryan (who once got in trouble for saying he wanted to "slap" Jason Kidd's wife).
I hate that the big-city columnists can take pot-shots at Cleveland and Cleveland can't defend itself because, apparently, we aren't big enough to warrant having Bill Livingston or Bud Shaw or Terry Pluto on the panel.
Simers (of the L.A. Times), I think, once said LeBron James belongs "in a major-league city, not Cleveland." Ever since then, "Around the Horn" can go straight to hell.
