Casey at the Bleh
He's 0 for 5 today, striking out with the tying and winning runs on base to and the game. I'd like any of the readers out there (you know, family members and the occasional "next blog" clicker, and of course Erik, Aaron, Sussman, the Vasavada clan) to give me one, ONE positive Casey Blake stat. And no, his 11 homers don't count. Not after hitting 28 last season and fooling everyone (well not everyone, really just the Indians brass) into thinking he was a Major League player.

Zach,

I watched the game last night, and as Casey Blake approached the plate with two outs in the ninth, I leaned over to Jenny and said "Watch, Casey Blake will strike out looking, because that will drive Zach insane." Unfortunately, Casey struck out swinging, but it is nice to know that somewhere in Ohio you were still pulling your hair out.

Love,
Your brother

Casey Blake has major league power with a minor-league hitter's eye. I've said before he'd hit for more power if he could make more consistent contact, but he simply can't react fast enough to good major-league pitching. His default setting appears to be "when in doubt, don't swing." That's a big reason why he strikes out looking so much.
