OSU fires O'Brian
Ohio State fired men's basketball head coach Jim O'Brian today, a move that has surprised me more than any in some time. What is surprising about it is that O'Brian was hired as a straight arrow, someone to clean up the remains of a troubled program left behind by Randy Ayers; he now leaves for the same reason--recruiting violations.
I just have trouble believing that O'Brian is a bad guy. If he made a mistake, I would like to believe it to be a mistake made with good intentions, which the story seems to indicate.
O'Brian is challenging the dismissal, so this could get interesting.
Here is the story.
