Cy.Cy. Sabathia
Congratulations to the first Indian to win the award since Gaylord Perry. Despite Sabathia's postseason struggles, he was the best pitcher in the American League this regular season. Well deserved.

I can check another item off the list of things I wanted to see before I die. Up next: an Indians 20-game winner.
But in true Cleveland fashion, I have to wring some negativity out of this moment, too.
Now that C.C. has a Cy, you had better believe that starting in 2009, he is going to earn AT LEAST $20 million a year. There is no wavering on that. No hometown discounts, nothing like that.
The only chance the Indians have is to sign him between now and the trade deadline next summer. If C.C. goes to free agency, the Indians are going to get blown out of the water.
If the Indians get to next July, haven't signed C.C. and aren't in contention, I frankly don't see how, in good conscience, they can keep him and risk losing him for little more than a sandwich pick in the '09 entry draft.
This is poor consolation for a pennant or a World Championship. I guess I'll have to take it.
