Rouse From my interim report last week:
-[Rouse] Had better never make an error, or else.
After his error (in an important game) that could have cost the Indians, I think it's time to give Mike Rouse a one-way ticket to Buffalo. Or maybe Akron.
Actually, the more I think about it, the more I believe that if a member of the Indians organization receives harsh public criticism, all it does is galvanize the organization's loyalty to that person (see Blake, Casey; Wedge, Eric; Broussard, Ben).
It's a classic bunker mentality where the object becomes proving critics wrong instead of realistic internal analysis of the team.
So the more enraged the fans become that Mike Rouse is a member of the Tribe, the more I think it's going to strengthen the team's resolve to keep him here, to the point that he might receive a multiyear extension this winter.
With that in mind, I guess we'd better all shut up before Mark Shapiro declares Rouse a "core player" and locks him up through 2011.
