After watching Lofton take a pie in the face tonight, I'm getting the feeling that this whole Trot Nixon practical joker thing is getting kind of old with some of his teammates.
I mean, doing it after a walkoff hit is one thing, because everyone is in a crazy mood anyway. But tonight, I'm not so sure. I mean, is Nixon going to do this after every win now?
Lofton has never been the biggest practical joker, and we all know how moody he can be. As he was wiping pie off his face, he kind of had this expression like didn't really appreciate being ambushed on live TV.
Do we really need to have our .240-hitting fifth outfielder running around like some screwball, pissing off the guys who are probably going to be carrying the team for the rest of the season?
If I was Nixon, I'd be in the batting cage after the game trying to figure out why my hitting has sucked all year instead of plastering guys with plates of whip cream. A .300 hitter who throws pies at his teammates is a class clown. A .240 hitter who does the same thing is a doofus.
